A day in the life of a wedding photographer on maternity leave, showing how I navigate being a mum and a small business owner.

One thing I've noticed is how so many new mums struggle to navigate motherhood whilst simultaneously trying to run their own businesses at the same time. A question that appears so often in so many photographer groups I'm in is 'how can I run a business when taking care of a baby is it's own full time job?' It's very hard work but it can be done! So I thought it may be of some benefit to film a 'day in the life' to show how I tackle both. I also chose a pretty full-on day as well to show that it can be done!

One thing I want to stress though, which I didn't touch on enough during the video, is how great my support network is. I honestly couldn't do it without my husband and both our families to help me. My husband doesn't feature in this video as I want to respect his privacy, so I want to make it clear I am not a single mum, I have a very supportive husband, he simply just doesn't appear in the video for his own privacy. The first piece of advice I would give any mum or dad running their own business is to build a support network. if you don't have family, make friends at baby groups etc. Build those relationships now and they will benefit you in the future, and also do wonders for your mental health too!
